UK Screen Alliance and AIMICI partner to support responsible, compliant AI use across VFX, animation and post

UKSA & AIMICI Partnership

AIMICI, the UK-based responsible AI organisation for the screen industry, has partnered with UK Screen Alliance to help its members use AI responsibly and in line with new disclosure requirements.

AIMICI today announces a partnership with UK Screen Alliance, the trade body for the UK’s VFX, animation and post-production sector. Under the partnership, UK Screen Alliance and Animation UK members can get priority access to AIMICI’s consultancy services, and discounts on their ScreenSkills-accredited Responsible AI training courses. The two organisations will work together over the next year to support responsible, well-documented AI use across production.

Generative AI tools are now part of everyday work in visual effects, animation and post, from previsualisation and clean-up to concept and finishing. As that use grows, so does the need to show it has been handled properly. Studios, commissioners and clients increasingly ask how AI has been used on a piece of work, and the new AI disclosure requirements included in the EU AI Act now apply to productions looking to distribute in the EU. Teams need a clear, consistent way to record and disclose their AI use, and to certify that the people doing the work understand it.

This is the practical problem AIMICI is helping to solve. AIMICI has supported productions, studios and VFX businesses on the compliance side of AI use over the last two years: how it is documented, how it is disclosed, and how oversight is maintained throughout a project. For companies without that expertise in-house, AIMICI’s Fractional AI Officer service provides it as an ongoing function, focused on the documentation, disclosure and governance that keeps AI use compliant and auditable over the life of a production. This enables teams to put additional oversight in place without hiring a new full-time role.

In addition to this consultancy offering, AIMICI is providing discounted access to its accredited training for UK Screen Alliance and Animation UK members. To build the community’s overall responsible AI competency, members receive 15% off AIMICI’s accredited training, giving teams and freelancers a shared language and understanding of the responsible AI process and supporting good governance across the sector. Members can find the code through the UK Screen Alliance members’ area.

Our members are working at the front of AI adoption in film and television, and they are being asked, rightly, to show that they are using these tools responsibly. This partnership gives them an accredited, practical way to start to build that confidence across their teams, and support to keep their AI use compliant and properly disclosed. We are pleased to be working with AIMICI on it,” said Neil Hatton MBE, CEO of UK Screen Alliance.

For VFX, animation and post teams, the questions are no longer only about whether or not AI is being used, but whether that use can stand up to scrutiny. Our Responsible AI training and consultancy services help to ensure everyone is able to confidently innovate with AI, while also knowing the key steps to stay compliant and transparent with their clients and partners. Through UK Screen Alliance, we’ll be moving the animation and VFX sectors closer to meeting a single standard for responsible AI practices across the whole screen industry,” said Kathryn Webb, Managing Director at AIMICI.

AIMICI’s services
